Are the effects of air pollution worse at higher elevations?

Wow, I have never thought about that?! Just a hypothesis, but I would think that the pollution would sink to the level it usually would go. Unless, some large physical object would not let it. The damage factor would probably depend on what lives and grows at that elevation and how it relates to the health of the ecosystem.
