Do some moderators abuse their power...?

I understand that the job of a moderator on message boards, chat rooms etc. is to control the quality of the content, but some moderators go too far. Some are just opinionated @$$holes who take your posts down if they happen to disagree with you on a matter, and some just get a kick out of having power. Is it just me or is this true?
